Questions to Ask During Your Eye Care Interview

So you've landed the interview for the eye care job of your dreams, congratulations! Don't let your hard work stop there. The purpose of an interview is to see if you are the best fit for that particular practice or organization, but don't forget that it is just as important to make sure that this job is the right fit for you. It is important that you prepare accordingly and only ask the questions that you want answered, although meaningful questions often suggest that you are well prepared and genuinely interested. Below are a few suggestions as you begin to prepare for your interview:

What are the eye care practice's short and long-term goals?

Asking this question shows that you are not only looking to do the bare minimum. It demonstrates interest in helping the eye care practice grow. You can also get an idea of opportunities and changes in the future and gauge whether or not you are up for the challenge (and benefits)!

What type of employee succeeds here?

This question allows you to take a look at characteristics of past employees and see what the eye care practice appreciates in order to succeed. Does the person they are describing sound like you? Be sure to take a critical look at yourself and not try to mold into someone that you are not. Your characteristics don't have to align perfectly with how the employer answers this question – maybe they don't have experience with someone who brings the same traits to the table as you. It just gives allow you to reflect on how you would fit in at the company.

How would you describe the company culture?

Since you will be spending a lot of your time working with the same people, it is probably important to understand how they interact throughout the day. Do you see yourself being happy spending many hours a day at this company, aside from your basic responsibilities?

Why are you looking to bring in a new associate (technician, etc.)?

This question allows you to truly understand the needs of the eye care practice and what they expect from you. It also speaks to the stability of the company, whether they are expanding, or if you have the potential to hold more responsibility in the future.
