Top 5 Vision Expo Hacks for Your Optical

Every year for the past 14 years, Dr. Sood and Dr. Sarai of Village Eyecare look forward to attending Vision Expo in New York and Las Vegas. While stepping away from their four practices in Chicago is not always easy, Dr. Sood explains why it is invaluable to escape the day-to-day distractions of the workplace to take a deep dive into the eyewear and eyecare industry as a whole. In just a few days, she and Dr. Sarai fill their calendars with business meetings and education, but also take time to browse the aisles and introduce themselves to the latest technologies and products. Learn how Dr. Sood and Dr. Sarai make the most of their time at Vision Expo >>

Top 5 Vision Expo Hacks:

  1. Don’t be afraid to meet new people. We have met so many wonderful people in the eye care industry at Vision Expo and it’s invaluable to us to gain so many different perspectives from our peers. We talk about the different ways we practice, products and technologies we’ve found useful and, of course, offer each other advice and tips based on our own experiences. Our field has so many different components to it, it’s not just medical -- it’s fashion, it’s
  2. Experience the latest in diagnostic ophthalmic equipment and software—and the experts behind it. It’s important to us that we offer our patients top of the line care, and that means having state-of-the-art technology. At Vision Expo, we take the time to demo new equipment and software. This year we found two new programs we know our Village Eyecare patients are going to love!
  3. Schedule time with your current eyewear vendors. It’s a great way to reconnect with the brand and get excited about what’s new for the coming season so you can inform your staff and patients. At Village Eyecare, we carry a lot of independent lines and many of our vendor relationships started at Vision Expo. We love being able to see the product, meet the owners, and get a vibe for the brand in person.
  4. Get your niche products ordered and out of the way. We don’t always think of them because they’re not our main source of sales, but being able to see, touch and experience the latest in sports and kids’ eyewear, cases, lens cloths, et cetera, makes it easier to decide what we will bring back with us.
  5. Download the Vision Expo app. The app makes it so easy to track the exhibitors you want to visit and build your own schedule. There’s also a live social media feed built in and it was fun to see our tweets pop up in real time – we are always able to connect with a few new people that way!

As doctors, it’s important to us to remain at the forefront of our industry. By attending Vision Expo twice per year, we’re constantly inspired by new innovations we can bring back to our practices. After the Show, we feel confident that we are bringing the latest products and technological advancements in eyecare to our patients in Chicago.
